Lahaina Film Festival seeks volunteers

LAHAINA – Featuring a big lineup of entertainers and award-winning films, the Lahaina Film Festival will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9, in Campbell Park along Front Street.
Set for 4 to 11 p.m., the free event will feature music by Uncle Boy Kana’e, Zenshin Daiko Taiko Drummers, Uncle Benny Uyetake, Brother Noland, Grammy winner Sonny Lim, and Hawaii Music Award winner Braddah Francis, and dancing by the ’Ulalena cast and Siva.
The films will all be West Maui premieres: “Requiem,” a shark documentary; “A Tribute to Aunty Nona” on Nona Beamer; “The Turtle and the Shark,” an animated short film; “Mai Tai” – two guys looking for paradise in all the wrong places; “Voyages,” a Herb Kane journey of the Hawaiians; “The Punalu’u Experience,” exploring the natural and cultural history of Punalu’u; “Children of the Long Canoes,” an incredible story of the first Hawaiians; and “Kekohi,” a Maui-made adventure film set in the time of Kamehameha the Great.
There will also be food, art and craft booths.
Organizers Kenneth K. Martinez Burgmaier and Uncle Boy Kana’e are looking for volunteers, food booth vendors, and Polynesian arts and crafts vendors.
